MĀLAMA
"To protect and care for."
I believe "Mālama" is one of the most important and moving words I've learned in the Hawaiian language.
Mālama essentially translates to "take care" but its deeper meaning is to commit to taking care of the people, places, and things that matter most.
Mālama is about being aware of your actions and understanding that you have a role in protecting what’s important. This could mean being more thoughtful about how you treat the environment, making sure you’re respectful and supportive to others, or simply being responsible for the spaces and communities you are a part of.
Practicing Mālama in your life also means showing kindness and empathy in your daily interactions. You don't have to have all the answers or do everything perfectly. Do what you can, with what you have, in a way that respects and uplifts others. Every act of caring adds up.
