Chase butterflies and they fly away.
Sit patiently in a flower garden and they'll fly right up to you and land on your nose. The same is true for trying to attract new ideas.
Read how capturing new ideas is like chasing butterflies in today's Big Yellow Sticky...
Some folks try to get hold of an idea.
I search for ideas that get hold of me.
In the search for new ideas, I take a different approach than most.
Most people spend all their time actively seeking out ideas, pursuing them and trying to catch them like running through a meadow chasing after butterflies with a net. It's a deliberate and intentional approach to finding new ideas, but I don't think it's all that effective in the long run. It just tires you out and annoys the butterflies.
Instead of always feeling the pressure of tracking down the ideas, allow yourself to be influenced and captivated by ideas that naturally resonate with you. Follow your curiosity and intuition, allowing new concepts to find and inspire you.
Although I have been known to proactively hunt down and idea or two, my most successful approach is simply being receptive, open-minded, and aware of the ideas flying all around (and being prepared to capture them when they flutter by my brain.) It's the difference between scaring away the butterflies by wildly swinging a net and chasing after them, or knowing that butterflies are attracted to bright flowering blossoms and the nectar they contain.
Why do you think I'm always wearing colorful Hawaiian shirts and sipping on sweet tiki drinks? I'm out in the world and attracting the ideas to me! ;)
